Bioengineering, environmental computer scientist, mobility manager, energy management expert: These are the growing careers in the green economy, a sector that will create new jobs in the coming years. Thus, the features of the future will be associated with “green” professions, which are characterized by greater contractual stability. Until 2023, every 5 new jobs created in Italy will be in environmentally sustainable companies: in total, nearly 500,000 new green professionals will be needed, more than 50% more than those created by the digital sector. Employment in the green sector will cover a share of approximately 20% of the total demand generated through 2023.
“The blue economy – explains Davide Boati of Hunters Group, an employee research company – can be seen as an evolution of the green economy with a specific goal: to achieve zero CO2 emissions. This translates to a 50% increase in requests from companies for professionals with skills Great technical, but also show a strong interest in sustainability.Green jobs in Italy are characterized by a high level of educational qualifications: in one case out of three (35.2%) a university level of education is required.Of the environmental professionals, companies expect not only higher education, You also expect specific experience. The buying and purchasing process is still complicated on aboard of the plane Of these figures: about 40% of companies complain of difficulties in determining the correct profile.
Demands for green accountants, environmental marketing experts, environmental designers and green lawyers are also growing. Finally, in the digital sphere, software or application developers, customer service managers and those involved in managing e-commerce will continue to be in great demand. The most in-demand green jobs also include: Environmental Brand Manager, Green Purchasing Manager, Manager in Recycled Products Marketing, Environmental Risk Manager dealing with compliance with environmental regulations and safety at work, Green Mechatronics and Green Manager. The latter supports the identification of environmental strategies, according to group indicators, coordinates environmental management by directing the activities of environmental and social specialists for warehouses, and oversees the application of environmental legislation. Furthermore, it develops national environmental projects and supervises local projects, coordinates environmental training for employees, and supports all company functions in taking environmental issues into account in business development. Finally, it collects environmental performance data, coordinates internal and supplier audits on sustainability issues, has relationships with external stakeholders on environmental issues and reports environmental performance to management and the international structure. Finally, energy certification stands out among the most sought after figures in the green sector. For the sale of real estate, an energy certificate certificate is actually mandatory. This document has been issued by this professional who is registered with an accreditation body. The certifier must hold: a diploma, surveyor, industrial or agricultural expert, or a three-year specialized degree in engineering, architecture, environmental sciences, chemistry, agricultural sciences and technologies, forests, and environmental sciences and technologies. With the aim of increasing sensitivity to environmental protection, the need for certificates that prove the reliability of its products and the environmental quality of companies is also increasing.
The current scenario of the availability of energy resources and the state of the environment confronts us with the daily need to rethink production and consumption models to ensure sustainable development. At the same time, the duties and skills of another green, rapidly growing, environmental engineer are also changing. This role must generally know how to combine environmental knowledge with economic, legal and technological skills. This profile is engaged in the development of so-called “clean” technologies; Must be able to measure and analyze pollutants in an ecosystem, study water treatment and management, waste recycling, protect natural sites and plan green spaces. He must also keep himself informed on the subject of regulations relating to the protection of nature, the landscape and the environment. The environmental engineer deals with energy savings, and therefore must be able to implement interventions that allow you to save at least 25 percent on annual energy costs. An entry-level position, along with a more experienced character, can be filled by a recent graduate in power engineering or mechanical engineering. For the senior position, specific multi-year professional technical experience is usually required, in feasibility studies, in designing systems for production and energy use and good knowledge of techniques typical of the management area. Moreover, it is necessary to possess organizational skills and decision making skills, teamwork skills and communication skills.
The importance of this occupational figure also stems from the fact that companies are developing policies and strategies that favor reducing consumption, optimizing uses and consequent cost reduction. In fact, the problems to be addressed are broader and more obvious and two fundamental aspects must certainly be combined: an assessment of the potential for energy self-sufficiency or at least self-production of the share, thanks to renewable energy and cogeneration systems, and secondly, an assessment of resource consumption throughout the service life cycle and, therefore, not only At the production stage, but also at the stage of purchasing raw materials, up to their distribution. Currently in Italy few companies are still familiar with these methodologies, with a clear spread of multinationals and large corporations. The current challenge is to engage the productive fabric of small and medium-sized enterprises, relevant in terms of national GDP and in the difficulty of implementing integrated policies and strategies without adequate support.
Over time, thanks to the rapid acceleration of technological research and the ever-increasing interest on the part of the European Union in environmental issues, the environmental engineer will gain increasing importance as he intervenes in cases of human impact on nature. This role should have knowledge of industrial eco-design, process efficiency, logistics, and technology for waste separation, recycling and value proving.
